Q & A

How is Souly Dog different from traditional training?

Souly Dog is not focused on obedience or command-based training. Instead, it centers on supporting emotional health and letting dogs express their natural behaviors in safe, enriching environments. Activities are designed to nurture calmness, confidence, and connection through experiences in nature and mindful guidance, rather than structured drills.

How can this non-obedience approach result in a well-behaved dog?

Souly Dog focuses on emotional wellbeing, trust, natural communication, and nervous system regulation. When a dog feels safe, understood, and emotionally balanced, they are much less likely to display “problem” behaviors. See our "Worried it's "Woo Woo" page for more information.

Why do I need to join the Souly Community?

Being part of the Souly Community is not a requirement, but it’s an optional resource designed to support those who want extra opportunities to help their dog thrive. Guardians can engage as much or as little as they like. The community offers skill-building, real-life practice, and access to new experiences with your dog, all meant to enhance your journey if you choose to participate. Ultimately, participation is always up to you and meant to fit your comfort and interests.

Does Souly Dog address behavioral issues like "reactivity", anxiety or fearfulness?

Yes, the program is designed to help dogs regulate their nervous systems, reduce anxiety, and build confidence through safe, choice-based experiences in nature. Techniques focus on building trust and emotional resilience, and using positive reinforcement and pattern games, rather than correcting behaviors through aversive methods.

How will I know if it's working?

Improvement is seen through subtle shifts in body language, relaxation, and overall happiness. You may notice your dog seeking connection, showing curiosity, settling more easily, and expressing a wider range of natural behaviors—all signs of emotional progress.

How much time does it take to see changes?

Progress varies widely per dog. Some guardians notice small shifts within weeks, while deeper emotional changes can take months. Souly Dog prioritizes steady, compassionate progress at the dog's pace, without rushing or strict timelines.
